Vietnam’s To Lam to Strengthen Ties in China Visit Next Week

Vietnamese President To Lam will embark on a pivotal state visit to the Chinese mainland from April 14 to 17, following an official invitation from Chinese President Xi Jinping. The upcoming diplomatic engagement marks a significant step in reinforcing bilateral cooperation amid evolving regional dynamics.

The visit, announced Thursday by Hu Zhaoming of the CPC Central Committee's International Department, is expected to focus on enhancing economic partnerships and addressing shared challenges in the Asia-Pacific region. Observers anticipate discussions on cross-border infrastructure projects, digital economy collaboration, and stability maintenance in the South China Sea.

This meeting follows Vietnam's recent elevation as a key ASEAN trade partner for China, with bilateral trade reaching $230 billion in 2025. Analysts suggest the leaders may also address coordination within APEC member economies ahead of November's APEC Leaders’ Meeting in Osaka.

The diplomatic initiative comes as both nations navigate complex global supply chain realignments, with particular attention to semiconductor manufacturing and renewable energy development. President Lam's itinerary is expected to include high-level meetings in Beijing and visits to technological hubs in Shenzhen.
