Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) leader Cheng Li-wun concluded her Shanghai visit this week with a strong call for enhanced cross-strait cooperation, emphasizing the transformative power of peaceful development during her delegation's tour of mainland China's technological and cultural landmarks.
The delegation experienced Shanghai's cutting-edge logistics infrastructure firsthand at Meituan's drone delivery hub, where Cheng personally tested the service by ordering milk tea. "This warm drink represents more than convenience – it's a testament to mainland innovation we can learn from," she remarked, highlighting opportunities for Taiwan's service sector to integrate smart technologies.
At a Huangpu River cultural exchange, Cheng engaged with 20 young professionals from both sides of the strait. Taiwan participants shared success stories about career development in Shanghai's dynamic environment, with Cheng praising their "courage to pursue dreams across the strait."
The group's Thursday itinerary included Yangshan Port's automated facilities and the Shanghai Aircraft Design and Research Institute, where they inspected China's domestically developed C919 jetliner. Cheng noted these achievements demonstrated "what becomes possible when societies prioritize progress over conflict."
As the delegation departed for Beijing, Cheng reaffirmed the KMT's commitment to maintaining dialogue channels: "Our shared history proves peace unlocks humanity's full potential. We must nurture mutual understanding despite differences." The visit continues through Sunday, with analysts anticipating discussions on economic collaboration frameworks.
