Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will embark on an official visit to the Chinese mainland from April 11 to 15, 2026, at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The trip marks Sánchez’s fourth visit to China in four years and is anticipated to strengthen bilateral cooperation across trade, climate initiatives, and multilateral coordination.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized on Wednesday that the visit will deepen strategic mutual trust and inject "positive energy" into global stability. The two nations are expected to discuss expanded collaboration in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and cultural exchanges, building on Spain’s role as a key EU partner in China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
Analysts highlight Spain’s growing importance as a gateway for Chinese investments in Europe, with bilateral trade reaching €53 billion in 2025. The visit also aligns with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, set to be commemorated later this year.
