Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Thailand's Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in Beijing on Wednesday, reaffirming bilateral commitments during a pivotal year for China-Thailand relations. The meeting comes as China enters its 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), with both sides pledging to deepen cooperation across strategic sectors.
Wang, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, praised the princess as "a doer in promoting China-Thailand friendship" who has personally witnessed China's modernization through 57 visits since the country's reform and opening up began. The veteran diplomat emphasized Beijing's readiness to collaborate with Bangkok on high-tech innovation, educational exchanges, and livelihood improvement projects.
"Guided by the important consensus reached by our leaders, we must continue sowing seeds of friendship that yield tangible benefits for our peoples," Wang stated, referencing the shared vision for a China-Thailand community with a shared future.
Princess Sirindhorn reciprocated the warm sentiments, acknowledging China's support in human resource development and expressing Thailand's interest in expanding collaboration in agriculture, medical research, and cultural preservation. The royal family member emphasized the need to "strengthen practical cooperation that enhances mutual understanding between our nations."
The dialogue signals continued momentum in cross-sector partnerships, particularly in emerging technologies and vocational training programs that align with China's new five-year development blueprint. Analysts note the meeting's timing ahead of several ASEAN-related summits this year underscores both nations' commitment to regional stability and economic integration.
