China Launches Largest Domestically-Built LNG Carrier, Boosting Maritime Capabilities

China marked a milestone in its shipbuilding industry today with the completion of the 'Celsius Georgetown,' the nation's largest domestically designed and constructed Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) carrier. Built at the China Merchants Industry Haimen Base in Jiangsu Province, the vessel underscores China's growing prowess in advanced maritime technology.

With a cargo capacity of 180,000 cubic meters and dimensions spanning 298.8 meters in length and 48 meters in width, the carrier represents a strategic leap for the Chinese mainland's energy infrastructure. The project was commissioned by Denmark-based Celsius Shipping under a 4+2+2 contract framework, signaling confidence in Chinese shipyards from overseas investors.

The achievement expands China's LNG carrier construction capacity to five specialized shipyards, positioning the country as a key player in global energy logistics. Analysts note this development aligns with efforts to secure sustainable energy transport solutions amid rising global demand for LNG.
