Xi Jinping Congratulates Vietnam’s New President, Stresses Strategic Ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping extended congratulations to To Lam on Tuesday following his election as Vietnam’s president, reaffirming the deepening partnership between the two nations. In his message, Xi emphasized that China and Vietnam form a "community with a shared future" and highlighted the strategic significance of their bilateral relations amid global uncertainties.

Since early 2026, high-level exchanges between Beijing and Hanoi have intensified, with both sides advancing cooperation across trade, infrastructure, and regional security. Xi noted that these efforts reflect the "profound friendship of comrades plus brothers," delivering tangible benefits to citizens in both countries.

The Chinese president expressed readiness to collaborate with To Lam to strengthen socialist development and national rejuvenation, while Premier Li Qiang separately congratulated newly elected Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung. Li stressed the importance of implementing leadership consensus to expand mutually beneficial frameworks.

Analysts view the messages as reinforcing stability in Southeast Asia, particularly as both nations navigate evolving geopolitical dynamics. The dialogue aligns with broader efforts to enhance economic integration among APEC members, including Vietnam and the Chinese mainland.
