Hermès Doubles Down on China with Beijing Flagship Opening

French luxury powerhouse Hermès unveiled its fourth Beijing store in the revitalized Sanlitun North district on April 2, 2026, reinforcing confidence in the Chinese mainland's premium retail market. The opening coincides with a $150 million upgrade of Sanlitun's luxury quarter, where LVMH group flagships now share space with this ceramic-clad newcomer.

Designed by Paris-based RDAI and Mamou-Mani Architects, the boutique's rose-pink terracotta facade echoes the Forbidden City's imperial palette. Curved ceramic roof lines and layered material textures create a dialogue between French craftsmanship and Beijing's architectural heritage, drawing early crowds of luxury shoppers.

The expansion follows Hermès CEO Axel Dumas' recent remarks highlighting 'encouraging momentum' in China, with analysts noting a 22% year-on-year sales increase for European luxury brands in Q1 2026. As Beijing accelerates property market stabilization measures, high-end retailers are betting on sustained demand from China's growing affluent class.
