China and Canada have agreed to establish a high-level economic and financial strategic dialogue later this year, signaling a renewed commitment to bilateral cooperation. The agreement was announced on April 3, 2026, following talks in Beijing between Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and Canadian Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne.
Vice Premier He, leading the Chinese side, emphasized the need to implement key consensus points previously reached by leaders of both nations. He highlighted opportunities to expand collaboration in trade, finance, and emerging economic sectors, aiming to stabilize long-term relations.
Minister Champagne affirmed Canada's prioritization of its relationship with China, stating: "We are ready to work with our Chinese counterparts to achieve concrete results through this dialogue." Both leaders jointly addressed representatives from cross-border financial institutions, encouraging increased market participation in each other's economies.
