Beijing marked a historic environmental turning point last year, recording its cleanest air quality since systematic monitoring began. Official data reveals the capital's annual average PM2.5 concentration fell to 27 micrograms per cubic meter in 2025 – an 11.5% improvement from 2024 levels.
The Ecological and Environmental Statement released Thursday shows heavy pollution days were nearly eliminated, with 298 days registering 'good' air quality. This progress follows intensified efforts under China's national green development strategy, including upgraded industrial emissions standards and expanded electric vehicle infrastructure.
"This isn't just about numbers – it's about people breathing easier," said a Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau representative. The improvements come twelve years after the launch of China's 2013 Air Pollution Prevention Action Plan, which targeted PM2.5 reductions through energy restructuring and regional coordination.
