Nine years after its inception, Xiongan New Area—a visionary urban project located just an hour from Beijing—has evolved from a bold blueprint into a thriving model of sustainable development. Spanning over 1,770 square kilometers, the city now hosts more than 5,300 completed buildings, 400 state-owned enterprises, and 600 high-tech firms, positioning itself as a hub for innovation and economic growth.
Designed to integrate cutting-edge technology with ecological preservation, Xiongan’s newly planted forests cover over 470 square kilometers, revitalizing local ecosystems while reducing carbon emissions. The city’s infrastructure prioritizes smart energy grids, autonomous public transport, and AI-driven urban management systems, earning it recognition as a global benchmark for future cities.
"Xiongan isn’t just about construction—it’s about redefining how humans coexist with technology and nature," said a senior planner involved in the project. With its phased expansion set to continue through 2035, the area aims to alleviate pressure on Beijing’s overcrowded infrastructure while fostering cross-regional economic collaboration across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei corridor.
As international delegations increasingly visit to study its design, Xiongan stands as a testament to the Chinese mainland’s ambition to lead in sustainable urbanization.
