Chinese Premier Urges Energy Shift, Tech Innovation in Sichuan Tour

Chinese Premier Li Qiang has called for accelerated optimization of energy infrastructure and technological innovation during a three-day inspection tour in Sichuan Province, underscoring Beijing's commitment to sustainable development and food security.

Visiting Chengdu and Deyang from March 30 to April 1, the premier inspected new energy enterprises and equipment manufacturing facilities. He highlighted photovoltaic technology advancements that have "significantly improved solar energy utilization efficiency" in recent years, urging increased R&D investment to overcome technical bottlenecks.

Premier Li emphasized the strategic importance of building "safe, reliable, and smart" power grids that integrate renewable energy sources. He advocated for combining artificial intelligence with manufacturing processes to drive breakthroughs in clean energy equipment production.

The tour included inspections of critical water management infrastructure, including the Zipingpu project and Dujiangyan irrigation system. Li described water conservancy as "a millennium-spanning undertaking," pushing for modernized facilities that balance flood control, irrigation, and ecological protection.

In Guanghan's wheat fields, the premier stressed agricultural modernization during spring planting season. He called for widespread adoption of smart farming equipment and high-efficiency field management techniques to ensure food security.
