Hong Kong and Singapore Strengthen Ties in Trade, Tourism, and Innovation

HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on March 27, 2026, to discuss enhanced collaboration between the two Asian hubs. The leaders emphasized shared commitments to free trade, multilateralism, and opposing protectionism during Wong’s three-day visit to Hong Kong.

Lee highlighted Hong Kong’s role as a “super connector” under the “One Country, Two Systems” framework, enabling Singaporean businesses to access opportunities in the Chinese mainland. Both sides pledged to expand cooperation in tourism, cultural exchanges, civil service training, and professional services, leveraging their strengths as global financial and trade centers.

The chief executive thanked Singapore for supporting Hong Kong’s bid to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), underscoring the city’s dedication to fostering regional economic integration. “Our emphasis on rule of law and high-quality talent creates a natural synergy,” Lee stated, positioning the partnership as a catalyst for Asia’s post-pandemic recovery.
