China Pledges Deeper WIPO Ties to Boost Innovation, IP Protection

Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang emphasized China's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) during a meeting with Director General Daren Tang in Beijing on March 28, 2026. The discussions focused on advancing global intellectual property frameworks and supporting technological self-reliance under China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).

Ding, a senior member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee's leadership, outlined plans to enhance IP rights protection and application systems. "China aims to become a global leader in intellectual property, driving high-quality development through innovation," he stated, reaffirming support for WIPO's role in creating efficient services for innovators worldwide.

Tang praised China's IP achievements and expressed WIPO's readiness to deepen collaboration, stating, "Our partnership will strengthen the global IP ecosystem, fostering scientific progress and sustainable economic growth." The dialogue highlights China's strategic alignment with multilateral institutions to bolster its innovation-driven economy.
