China Backs Palestinian Rights, Calls for Middle East Peace at UNHRC

China Reiterates Support for Two-State Solution Amid Escalating Gaza Crisis

At the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Chinese envoy Jia Guide reaffirmed Beijing's unwavering support for Palestinian rights, urging immediate action to address the 'unprecedented' humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Speaking on March 24, 2026, Jia emphasized that China will continue advocating for a comprehensive peace plan rooted in international law.

'The suffering of Palestinian people demands global attention,' stated Jia, China's permanent representative to UN Geneva. He criticized recent settlement expansions in the West Bank and military actions affecting Lebanon and Syria as violations of UN resolutions, while calling for restored humanitarian access and a durable ceasefire.

The remarks come as regional tensions reach new heights, with Israel's proposed annexation plans drawing international scrutiny. Jia stressed that implementing the two-state solution remains 'the only viable path' to lasting stability, urging all parties to return to negotiation frameworks established prior to the 2023 escalation.
