China Unveils 2025 Global Engineering Frontiers Report at ZGC Forum

China's scientific community marked a milestone this week as the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) revealed its groundbreaking 'Engineering Fronts 2025' report during the opening of the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum in Beijing. The comprehensive study identifies 189 critical innovation pathways across nine key sectors, offering a roadmap for global technological advancement.

CAE President Li Xiaohong presented the findings to an international audience of scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders. The report highlights four transformative forces reshaping modern engineering: the deep integration of artificial intelligence across disciplines, accelerated commercialization of emerging technologies, expansion into extreme operational environments, and the global transition to green industrial systems.

Notably, the study emphasizes China's growing role in shaping next-generation engineering practices while maintaining focus on sustainable development. This year's forum theme – 'Full Integration Between Technological and Industrial Innovation' – aligns closely with the report's call for strengthened academia-industry collaboration.

First published in 2017, the annual report has become a crucial reference for research institutions and governments worldwide. The 2025 edition marks its debut at the ZGC Forum, which continues through March 29, reinforcing Beijing's position as a hub for international scientific exchange.
