China Urges Dialogue to Resolve Ukraine Crisis, Stresses Peace Through Negotiations

China has reiterated its call for peaceful negotiations to resolve the ongoing Ukraine conflict during a United Nations Security Council session this week. Deputy Permanent Representative Sun Lei emphasized that dialogue remains "the only viable path to peace" while outlining Beijing's principled stance on the crisis.

"Conflicts and wars have no winners," Sun stated on March 23, 2026, urging all parties to prioritize political solutions over military escalation. The Chinese diplomat presented a four-point framework advocating respect for national sovereignty, adherence to UN Charter principles, acknowledgment of security concerns, and support for peace-building measures.

Addressing the complex geopolitical landscape, Sun described the conflict as "the culmination of Europe's security contradictions" rooted in long-standing trust deficits. He specifically called on Moscow and Kyiv to "consider fundamental interests" and work toward a "comprehensive, lasting and binding peace agreement."

While reaffirming China's neutral position, Sun pledged Beijing's continued engagement with all stakeholders to facilitate dialogue. The statement comes as global attention focuses on potential diplomatic breakthroughs in 2026, with China positioning itself as a consistent advocate for multilateral conflict resolution.
