Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized deepening cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean in a congratulatory message to the 10th Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Summit, which opened on Saturday in Bogotá, Colombia. The message highlighted China's commitment to fostering mutual development and strengthening dialogue under the framework of South-South cooperation.
President Xi reaffirmed China's support for CELAC's role in regional integration and pledged to advance practical collaboration in trade, infrastructure, and green energy. He noted that bilateral trade between China and CELAC members surpassed $450 billion in 2025, underscoring the region's growing importance to Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative and Global Development Initiative.
The summit, attended by leaders from 33 member states, focuses on sustainable development and post-pandemic recovery strategies. Analysts view Xi's message as a strategic move to consolidate China's influence in the Global South ahead of key multilateral forums later this year.
