China has raised serious concerns regarding Mexico's potential review of Chinese investments under an "economic security" framework, the Ministry of Commerce announced on March 21, 2026. The ministry emphasized its opposition to unilateral protectionist measures and urged Mexico to avoid politicizing trade issues.
A spokesperson stated that China initiated an investigation into Mexico's trade barriers in September 2025, following tariffs imposed by Mexico. "Final findings will be released soon, with corresponding measures to protect China's legitimate interests," the spokesperson added.
Highlighting mutual respect as a cornerstone of bilateral relations, China called for enhanced communication to stabilize economic ties. The spokesperson urged Mexico to uphold market rules and provide a fair environment for all foreign investors, including Chinese firms.
