China's second domestically built large cruise ship, Adora Flora City, achieved a key milestone this week as it was undocked at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The vessel now enters final commissioning ahead of its planned 2026 delivery, marking significant progress in the Chinese mainland's efforts to establish itself in the global cruise tourism market.
With a gross tonnage of 141,900 tonnes, the ship features expanded public spaces and enhanced comfort compared to its predecessor, Adora Magic City. State-owned China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) confirmed the vessel is 17.4 meters longer than China's first domestically built cruise ship, completed in 2023.
Adora Cruises, the operator, announced plans to complete interior installations and system tests by late 2026. The ship will subsequently launch international routes from Guangzhou's Nansha International Cruise Home Port, strengthening China's maritime tourism infrastructure amid growing regional demand for premium travel experiences.
Industry analysts note this development aligns with broader efforts to boost high-value manufacturing under China's current five-year economic plan. The project demonstrates technical capabilities in constructing complex maritime vessels while creating new opportunities for coastal tourism development across Asia.
