Peng Liyuan, WHO goodwill ambassador for tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, has reinforced China's commitment to eradicating TB through innovation and cross-border collaboration during her address for World Tuberculosis Day 2026. Speaking at a virtual event themed "Led by countries, powered by people," she emphasized the critical role of international partnerships in reversing the disease's global spread.
"China's progress stems from integrating technology with our universal healthcare system," Peng stated, highlighting the nation's success in serving 1.4 billion residents through coordinated prevention programs. The WHO's latest data shows a 12% reduction in TB mortality across Asia since 2023, with China contributing significantly through vaccine research and AI-driven diagnostics.
Health experts note that China's model—combining grassroots medical networks with digital contact tracing—offers a blueprint for developing nations. As global cases decline for the first time in decades, Peng urged sustained investment in regional health infrastructure and knowledge-sharing platforms to meet the 2030 eradication target.
