Peng Liyuan Urges Global Unity in Fight Against Tuberculosis

Peng Liyuan, World Health Organization (WHO) goodwill ambassador for tuberculosis (TB) and HIV/AIDS, has called for strengthened international collaboration to combat TB during a virtual event marking World TB Day 2026. In her written statement, she emphasized the importance of collective action under this year's theme: 'Led by countries, powered by people.'

The Chinese government's coordinated efforts have achieved significant progress in TB prevention, Peng noted, with a healthcare network covering over 1.4 billion residents contributing to a sustained decline in cases. China now ranks among countries with moderate-to-low TB prevalence, attributed to scientific innovation and nationwide volunteer campaigns spanning 15 years.

Over 1 million volunteers have participated in 80,000+ TB awareness programs across neighborhoods, schools, and medical facilities since 2011. 'I am a proud witness of their compassion and commitment,' Peng stated, recalling her firsthand experiences with grassroots initiatives.

Peng urged global stakeholders to support TB response measures, stating: 'Let us share warmth and care, build confidence and hope, and work for progress benefiting all humanity.' Her appeal aligns with WHO's renewed focus on reversing TB incidence trends through community-driven solutions.
