China Urges Ceasefire in Middle East, Vows Mediation Role

China's top diplomat Wang Yi emphasized the urgent need to halt casualties in the Middle East during talks with Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, special envoy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) president, in Beijing on Wednesday. Wang, a senior official of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reiterated China's commitment to mediating a ceasefire and restoring regional stability.

"This war should not have happened, and there is no need to continue it," Wang stated, condemning attacks on civilians and infrastructure. He affirmed China's support for the UAE's sovereignty and security while highlighting the growing strategic importance of China-UAE relations amid the conflict.

Khaldoon praised China as a "reliable partner" and expressed the UAE's eagerness to expand cooperation in energy, economy, and cultural exchanges. Both sides agreed to strengthen high-level communication to advance their comprehensive strategic partnership.

Wang also acknowledged the UAE's efforts to protect Chinese citizens in the region, underscoring cross-regional trust as a cornerstone for peacebuilding. China's mediation efforts align with its broader diplomatic focus on de-escalation in 2026, positioning it as a key stakeholder in resolving global crises.
