Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for enhanced bilateral cooperation with Turkmenistan during high-level talks in Beijing on Tuesday, emphasizing the need to 'carry forward friendly traditions' between the two nations. The meeting coincided with the visit of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, who is regarded as an old friend of the Chinese people.
Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted the 'strong mutual trust and profound friendship' between leaders of both countries as crucial for advancing their comprehensive strategic partnership. The discussions focused on implementing agreements reached during recent diplomatic engagements and preparing for the third China-Central Asia Summit later this year.
Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister Rashid Meredov congratulated China on its recently concluded 'two sessions' political meetings and expressed support for Beijing's global development initiatives. Both sides also exchanged views on regional security issues, including the situation in Iran, demonstrating their aligned approaches to international affairs.
Analysts suggest the strengthened partnership could boost energy cooperation and infrastructure development along key Belt and Road Initiative routes in Central Asia. The talks concluded with mutual commitments to deepen trade, cultural exchanges, and multilateral coordination within international organizations.
