Global Experts Advocate Inclusive Development at UN Human Rights Council

Chinese and international experts emphasized the critical role of inclusive development in advancing human rights during a recent side event at the 61st UN Human Rights Council session in Geneva. The discussions, held on March 17, 2026, focused on addressing systemic inequalities and aligning global cooperation with sustainable development goals.

Hao Luyi, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, underscored the need for equitable development opportunities to tackle migration and refugee challenges. Marc Limon of the Universal Rights Group highlighted persistent economic disparities within the UN framework, urging reforms to taxation policies and international cooperation mechanisms.

Chinese scholars presented case studies demonstrating progress in human rights through development. Tang Yingxia of Nankai University cited China's Global Development Initiative as a blueprint for reducing structural inequalities in the Global South. Yang Tao from the China Tibetology Research Center detailed ecological and economic advancements in the Xizang Autonomous Region, where green industries and improved infrastructure have boosted local incomes while preserving ecosystems.

Education emerged as a key theme, with Jinan University's Zheng Liang advocating for equitable access to learning opportunities as a foundation for development rights. Experts unanimously called for integrating these principles into international partnerships to achieve the UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
