Virtual Journey into China’s Shang Dynasty Unveils Queen Fu Hao’s Legacy

Step into the Bronze Age Through Immersive Digital Exhibition

As of March 2026, history enthusiasts worldwide can explore the Shang Dynasty's ritualistic splendor through Sacred Shang, a groundbreaking virtual exhibition showcasing artifacts from China's second imperial dynasty (c. 1600 BC-1046 BC). Centered on Queen Fu Hao – military leader, spiritual leader, and royal consort – the experience brings to life the craftsmanship that shaped one of humanity's earliest advanced civilizations.

Produced as part of CGTN's China Crafted art series, the exhibition features ritual bronze vessels and jade artifacts comparable to contemporary works from ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. A highlight includes oracle bones inscribed with early Chinese script – the world's oldest continuously used writing system – preserving divination records that reveal Fu Hao's historical significance.

Where Military Might Meets Spiritual Authority

The exhibition reconstructs Fu Hao's dual role as battlefield commander and high priestess through 3D-rendered artifacts from her tomb, discovered intact in 1976. Visitors can examine ritual wine vessels used in ancestral worship ceremonies and military axes symbolizing her wartime authority, all contextualized through interactive storytelling.

Archaeologist Dr. Li Wei notes in a companion feature: "Fu Hao's legacy demonstrates how Shang craftsmanship served both earthly power and spiritual communication. These artifacts aren't merely beautiful objects – they're physical manifestations of a civilization's worldview."
