China, Vietnam Strengthen Strategic Ties in Key Diplomatic Talks

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung convened in Hanoi on March 15, 2026, reaffirming commitments to deepen bilateral cooperation under their shared socialist vision. The meeting followed strategic agreements made after the Communist Party of Vietnam's 14th National Congress in January this year, which established new frameworks for diplomacy, defense, and public security collaboration.

Wang emphasized the significance of aligning development and security priorities through the newly activated China-Vietnam '3+3' strategic dialogue and the 17th meeting of the bilateral cooperation steering committee. 'Our socialist systems' advantages are becoming increasingly prominent,' Wang stated, highlighting 2026 as a pivotal year with China's 15th Five-Year Plan and Vietnam's national development strategy creating synergies for mutual progress.

Both ministers stressed the need to counter global uncertainties through strengthened economic resilience and inter-party exchanges. Trung reiterated Vietnam's adherence to the one-China policy and support for China's positions on Xinjiang and Xizang-related matters. Plans for enhanced cooperation in trade, green energy, and cultural exchanges were also outlined, with Trung pledging to 'deepen and solidify the strategically significant China-Vietnam community with a shared future.'
