China-US Soybean Partnership Drives Sustainable Agriculture Innovation

China and the US continue to strengthen agricultural cooperation, with soybean trade and sustainability initiatives forming the backbone of a decades-long partnership. Jim Sutter, CEO of the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC), emphasized China's role as the world's largest soybean importer, accounting for nearly half of annual US exports. In the 2024/25 marketing year, the US exported 22.6 million tonnes of soybeans to China, sustaining jobs across rural communities and supply chains.

Soybean Trade: A Cornerstone of Bilateral Ties

The US-China Soy Value Chain Innovation Center (SIC), established in 2023 in Henan Province, has become a hub for research and training in livestock, aquaculture, and soy applications. Collaborating with COFCO and Cargill, the center bridges commercial and environmental goals, enhancing supply chain resilience.

Pioneering Sustainable Aquaculture

In 2024, a groundbreaking aquaculture project using the in-pond raceway system (IPRS) launched in Henan's Minquan County. Designed by Auburn University, the system produces 25 tonnes of fish annually while conserving water and reducing pollution, setting a benchmark for eco-friendly practices.

Beyond Soy: Fertilizer Innovations

US firm BRANDT partnered with China's Yonfer Agricultural Technology in 2023 to introduce REACTION fertilizer technology, boosting crop yields and soil health in Guangdong and Yunnan provinces. Farmers report improved resilience against climate challenges.

Showcasing Sustainability Globally

USSEC's eighth consecutive appearance at the China International Import Expo highlighted US agricultural commodities, reinforcing commitments to quality and sustainability. These efforts underscore how cross-Pacific collaboration can address global food security and climate goals.
