China, US Conclude High-Stakes Trade Talks; Li Chenggang Highlights Progress

Senior Chinese official Li Chenggang, the nation's international trade representative and vice minister of commerce, addressed journalists on March 16, 2026, following two days of intensive economic negotiations with US counterparts. The talks, described as "substantive and forward-looking" by Li, focused on stabilizing bilateral trade relations amid global market uncertainties.

"We have reached important consensus on enhancing cooperation in technology, agriculture, and green energy sectors," Li stated, emphasizing China's commitment to resolving trade disputes through dialogue. The discussions also addressed tariff adjustments and intellectual property protections, with both sides agreeing to establish a quarterly consultation mechanism through 2026.

The outcome comes as businesses across Asia monitor US-China economic ties, which influence over $650 billion in annual bilateral trade. Analysts suggest the agreements could ease supply chain pressures affecting automotive and semiconductor industries this year.
