China, France Strengthen Economic Ties in High-Level Talks

Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng met with French Finance Minister Roland Lescure in Paris on March 16, 2026, to advance bilateral economic cooperation. The discussions followed recent China-U.S. economic and trade talks, underscoring Beijing's proactive engagement with global partners.

As China's lead representative in the China-France High Level Economic and Financial Dialogue, He emphasized implementing strategic agreements between President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron. "China stands ready to deepen practical cooperation across all economic and financial sectors," He stated, highlighting opportunities in green energy and technological innovation.

Minister Lescure reaffirmed France's commitment to strengthening investment ties, noting: "Our economic complementarity creates mutual benefits in advanced manufacturing and sustainable development." Both sides agreed to enhance coordination on multilateral economic governance reforms.

The meeting signals continued momentum in China-Europe economic relations, with bilateral trade reaching $85 billion in 2025. Analysts suggest the dialogue could facilitate new partnerships in artificial intelligence and climate finance ahead of the 2026 G20 Summit.
