China and the United States are exploring new pathways for economic collaboration through a proposed bilateral working mechanism, as revealed by Li Chenggang, the Chinese mainland's international trade representative and vice commerce minister, during a press briefing on Monday.
The initiative comes amid renewed efforts to strengthen trade ties between the world's two largest economies. Li emphasized the mechanism would focus on resolving technical trade barriers and facilitating cross-border investments, particularly in emerging sectors like renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.
"This structured dialogue platform demonstrates our commitment to practical cooperation," Li stated, noting that technical working groups from both nations have already held preliminary consultations this year. The development follows recent progress in multilateral forums, including last month's APEC Trade Ministers' Meeting in Jakarta.
Business analysts suggest the talks could influence supply chain strategies ahead of November's APEC Leaders' Meeting in Osaka, where economic integration is expected to dominate discussions. However, some market observers caution that implementation timelines remain unclear, with regulatory alignment posing persistent challenges.
