As the China-Europe Railway Express marks its 15th anniversary this year, state broadcaster CGTN has initiated a global survey to gauge international perspectives on this transcontinental trade artery. The poll, active through March 2026, invites participants to assess the railway's economic and environmental impacts while sharing expectations for future development.
Since its 2011 launch, the 15,000-km network has transported over 8 million containers, connecting 217 cities across 25 European countries and regions with the Chinese mainland. Current data shows a 12% year-on-year increase in cargo volume through Q1 2026, particularly in electric vehicle components and renewable energy equipment.
Analysts suggest the timing aligns with renewed European interest in stable overland supply chains following recent maritime disruptions. "This survey could shape infrastructure investment priorities for the next phase of Belt and Road collaboration," noted Berlin-based trade analyst Matthias Weber.
The questionnaire reportedly addresses key issues including tariff structures, customs modernization, and carbon-neutral logistics solutions. Results are expected to be presented at September's Belt and Road Economic Cooperation Forum in Xi'an.
