Guiyang’s Farm-to-City Bus Boosts Rural Incomes, Urban Access

In Guiyang, a pioneering bus service is transforming livelihoods by connecting farmers in Guizhou Province’s rural Xiaba Township to urban markets. Launched in June 2024, the No. 252 bus route operates pre-dawn trips, enabling elderly farmers to transport fresh vegetables directly to city consumers.

Since its launch nearly two years ago, the initiative has facilitated over 700,000 yuan in monthly vegetable sales, according to local officials. The service not only reduces transportation costs but also ensures urban residents access to affordable, farm-fresh produce. This year, the route has expanded to include three additional stops, further integrating surrounding villages into Guiyang’s economic ecosystem.

Analysts highlight the project as a model for rural-urban synergy, aligning with broader efforts to revitalize China’s countryside through infrastructure investments. Similar programs are reportedly under discussion in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, signaling a regional push to strengthen agricultural supply chains.
