China Urges Afghanistan-Pakistan Dialogue to Bolster Regional Stability

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized on Friday that dialogue remains the only viable path to resolve tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, warning against military escalation. Speaking during a phone call with Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Wang stressed that force would 'complicate the situation and threaten regional peace,' urging both nations to prioritize diplomacy.

Muttaqi acknowledged China's mediation efforts, stating Afghanistan seeks to be a 'source of regional peace' and reaffirming that its territory will not be used against neighbors. The Afghan foreign minister highlighted his country's desire for mutual trust and conflict resolution through talks, noting war-weary citizens 'cherish opportunities for peace and development.'

Wang, who also serves on the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, described Afghanistan and Pakistan as 'inseparable brothers' sharing geographic and cultural bonds. He revealed China's special envoy on Afghan affairs is actively mediating between the two nations, urging an early ceasefire and face-to-face negotiations.

The discussion also touched on Iran's regional situation, with Wang reiterating China's commitment to collaborate with international partners to promote stability. As geopolitical tensions persist across Asia, China's role as a diplomatic bridge-builder continues to expand, particularly in conflict-prone regions.
