China, Vietnam Launch Historic ‘3+3’ Strategic Dialogue This Week

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, alongside Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong and Minister of National Defense Dong Jun, will lead a high-level delegation to Vietnam from March 15 to 17 for the inaugural China-Vietnam '3+3' strategic dialogue. The trilateral forum focuses on advancing cooperation in diplomacy, defense, and public security, marking a new phase in bilateral relations.

Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, will also co-chair the 17th meeting of the China-Vietnam Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation during the visit. The dialogue comes amid growing economic ties between the two nations, with bilateral trade reaching $230 billion in 2025.

Analysts view the '3+3' mechanism as a strategic effort to address regional security challenges while strengthening infrastructure and supply chain connectivity under China's Belt and Road Initiative and Vietnam's development priorities. The talks are expected to lay groundwork for enhanced maritime cooperation and cross-border crime prevention.
