A groundbreaking variety show exploring China's $50 billion pet economy launched this week in Chengdu, offering insights into how furry companions are reshaping urban lifestyles and driving consumer innovation. Jiayou Wangwang (Go Go Woof) blends entertainment with practical initiatives to promote pet-friendly public spaces, reflecting what producers call "a cultural shift among young urbanites."
Zhao Bin, a project lead from Chengdu Culture and Tourism Development Group, told KhabarAsia: "Pets have become central to the 'healing economy' – providing emotional stability in high-pressure cities. A city's pet-friendliness now directly impacts its ability to attract talent."
The show will bridge China's two pet economy powerhouses – Chengdu and Shanghai – through collaborative projects in pet tech, tourism, and community services. Early episodes feature innovations like AI-powered health trackers and urban "pet corridors" in parks.
With 68 million pet dogs nationwide and growing demand for premium services, the series aims to position Chengdu as a model for sustainable pet-inclusive urban development. Analysts predict the sector could drive $12 billion in regional economic activity by 2027.
