Beijing Debuts World’s First Smart Elder-Care Robot Station

Beijing launched the world's first smart elder-care service robot station on March 12, 2026, marking a milestone in aging-population solutions. The facility allows residents to interact with AI-driven robots designed to assist with medication reminders, mobility support, and social companionship through conversational interfaces.

Developed through a partnership between municipal authorities and tech firms, the station features IoT-enabled health monitoring systems and emergency response protocols. A demonstration showed robots guiding seniors through tai chi routines while collecting real-time biometric data for personalized care plans.

With over 20% of Beijing's population aged 60 or older, officials emphasize this initiative as part of broader efforts to build 'silver-friendly' cities. Similar stations are planned for Shanghai and Guangzhou by late 2026, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
