Shanghai's Pudong Airport became a gateway to innovation this week as hundreds of international tech leaders bypassed traditional immigration queues through China's groundbreaking visa-free policy. The Appliance & Electronics World Expo (AWE) 2026, running from March 12 to 15, marks Asia's largest showcase of smart home technologies and consumer electronics through its pioneering dual-venue format.
Policy Innovation Fuels Collaboration
The Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone, operational since November 2025, hosted its first major event with streamlined entry for pre-registered professionals from 48 countries. Under regulations introduced last July, invited participants can stay up to 30 days without visas when attending events in this special economic zone.
Dual Venues, Unified Vision
While the Shanghai New International Expo Center displays mainstream consumer products across 13 halls, the Eastern Hub annex focuses on experimental technologies. The combined 170,000-square-meter exhibition space features AI-powered appliances and next-generation IoT solutions from over 2,000 exhibitors.
A Ministry of Commerce representative stated: "This model demonstrates our commitment to frictionless global cooperation. By 2026, we've seen a 40% increase in first-time exhibitors from APEC members compared to pre-pandemic levels."
