Chinese envoy Fu Cong called for an immediate halt to hostilities between Lebanon and Israel during a UN Security Council briefing on March 12, 2026, warning that escalating violence threatens regional stability. Fu, China's permanent representative to the UN, emphasized that the conflict has displaced over 700,000 people and caused at least 570 civilian deaths, including women and children.
"The continuation of hostility serves the interests of no party," Fu stated, urging Israel to withdraw troops from Lebanon and condemning attacks on civilians and UN peacekeepers. He stressed that protecting non-combatants is "a red line in international law" and called for increased humanitarian aid to Lebanon.
The ambassador also denounced the March 6 attack on UNIFIL peacekeepers, which injured three personnel, as a violation of Security Council Resolution 1701. China pledged to collaborate with the international community to stabilize Lebanon and de-escalate tensions across the Middle East.
