China, Pakistan Urge Restraint in Iran Crisis, Push for Peace Talks

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar held urgent talks on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, emphasizing the need for immediate de-escalation in tensions surrounding Iran. The diplomatic exchange comes amid heightened regional instability, with both nations calling for restraint and adherence to international law.

Wang stressed that preventing further conflict requires the United States and Israel to halt military operations, stating China "does not approve of attacks on Gulf countries" and condemns civilian casualties. The Chinese foreign minister reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to multilateral solutions through platforms like the United Nations, praising Pakistan's mediation efforts as "constructive."

Dar outlined Pakistan's position on the Iran situation, urging all parties to prioritize dialogue over confrontation. The leaders agreed to strengthen coordination through bilateral channels and international institutions to promote regional stability.

The discussion also addressed recent Pakistan-Afghanistan border clashes, with Wang revealing China's special envoy is actively mediating between the neighbors. "The urgent task is to prevent escalation and return to negotiations," Wang emphasized, while reaffirming support for Pakistan's counterterrorism measures and safety of Chinese personnel in the country.
