Senior Chinese Official Song Ping Cremated in Beijing Ceremony

The remains of Song Ping, a veteran leader of the Communist Party of China and former member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee, were cremated in Beijing on March 10, 2026. President Xi Jinping and other senior leaders attended the solemn ceremony at Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery to pay their final respects.

Song, who passed away on March 4 at age 109 after a prolonged illness, was remembered as "an outstanding proletarian revolutionary" in an official tribute. His six-decade political career included key roles during China's reform and opening-up era, culminating in his service on the CPC Central Committee's highest decision-making body from 1987 to 1992.

Current Politburo Standing Committee members Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, and Wang Huning joined former leader Hu Jintao in honoring Song's legacy. Hu sent a commemorative wreath, while other officials visited Song's family to convey condolences.

The ceremony underscored the CPC's tradition of honoring veteran revolutionaries, with state media highlighting Song's contributions to economic policy-making and party discipline during critical transitional periods.
