Ningbo's transformed industrial complex, once a Sinopec refining plant, has become an unexpected tourist magnet following the record-breaking success of racing comedy Pegasus 3. During a recent open day event, thousands of film enthusiasts explored the facility's cyberpunk-inspired racetracks and machinery-laden sets that featured prominently in this year's box office champion.
Local authorities report a 210% increase in tourism inquiries since the film's January 2026 release. The site now showcases interactive exhibits blending the location's industrial history with behind-the-scenes movie magic, including augmented reality stations recreating iconic race sequences.
"This fusion of cinematic spectacle and preserved heritage makes industrial sites accessible to new generations," said cultural tourism expert Dr. Li Wei, noting similar film-driven revitalization projects emerging across the Chinese mainland.
With Pegasus 3 still drawing crowds in theaters, Ningbo officials announce extended weekend access through June 2026, coupled with safety upgrades to accommodate the surge in visitors.
