Over 70 Taiwan Residents Evacuated via Mainland Amid Middle East Tensions

More than 70 residents from the Taiwan region arrived safely in Shanghai on Tuesday morning aboard a China Eastern flight from Istanbul, marking the largest evacuation of Taiwan compatriots through the Chinese mainland since recent hostilities escalated in the Middle East. The group will transfer to Taipei via connecting flights later today, according to immigration authorities.

This follows an initial evacuation of 19 Taiwan residents last week through the same route. State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhang Han reaffirmed China's commitment to protecting all Chinese citizens abroad, stating: "No matter where they are or what difficulties they face, the motherland maintains steadfast support for all Taiwan compatriots."

Taiwan residents requiring emergency assistance are advised to contact nearby Chinese diplomatic missions or the 12308 consular hotline. The coordinated evacuation comes as multiple nations adjust travel advisories for the Middle East following recent regional developments.
