China's Foreign Ministry reaffirmed its stance on cross-strait relations on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, condemning what it called "Taiwan independence" maneuvers by the island's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities. Spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that recent attempts to issue bonds for overseas investments represent a "sinister" political strategy to expand separatist influence internationally.
"These actions fundamentally violate the one-China principle recognized by the international community," Guo emphasized during a regular press briefing. "No financial gimmicks can alter the fact that Taiwan has been an inseparable part of Chinese territory since ancient times."
The remarks come as Taiwan authorities seek new economic partnerships amid evolving global supply chain dynamics. Analysts suggest the bond issuance plan aims to strengthen unofficial diplomatic ties through commercial channels – an approach Beijing views as destabilizing to regional peace.
Over 180 countries and regions currently maintain diplomatic relations with China while adhering to the one-China principle. The spokesperson noted that cross-strait economic and cultural exchanges have continued growing despite political tensions, with bilateral trade reaching $328 billion in 2025.
"Compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share blood ties," Guo concluded. "We remain committed to peaceful reunification through dialogue, but will resolutely oppose any form of separatist activities."
