Mainland Condemns DPP’s ‘Taiwan Independence’ Moves Amid Japan Visit

The Chinese mainland has issued a stern rebuke to Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities for what it calls "provocative attempts to pursue 'Taiwan independence' through foreign collusion." The criticism follows a controversial visit to Japan by Cho Jung-tai, leader of the Taiwan region's executive body, which mainland officials claim violated cross-strait stability principles.

State Council Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian stated Monday that Cho's recent activities in Japan under "so-called private arrangements" constituted a deliberate challenge to the One-China principle. "This disgraceful act exposes the DPP authorities' persistent pattern of betraying national interests and undermining peace across the Taiwan Strait," Zhu said during a press briefing.

The spokesperson emphasized Beijing's firm opposition to any external forces providing platforms for "Taiwan independence" separatist activities, specifically criticizing Japan for enabling the visit. Analysts suggest the development could strain both cross-strait relations and Sino-Japanese diplomatic ties as regional powers navigate complex geopolitical currents.
