China’s Supreme Procuratorate Highlights Legal Reforms in 2026 Work Report

Procurator-General Ying Yong outlined the Supreme People's Procuratorate's annual priorities during his address to the National People's Congress (NPC) on March 9, 2026, emphasizing enhanced legal oversight to support China's modernization goals. The report delivery at the Great Hall of the People marks a key procedural moment in China's legislative calendar.

Key Priorities for 2026

The 2026 work report identifies three core focus areas: safeguarding economic security through anti-monopoly enforcement, strengthening intellectual property protection for tech innovation, and improving cross-strait judicial cooperation mechanisms. Ying stressed the need for "precision legal oversight" to address emerging challenges in financial risk prevention and cybersecurity.

Cross-Strait Cooperation Framework

Notably, the report proposes expanding collaboration mechanisms with legal authorities in the Taiwan region, particularly in combating transnational fraud and protecting overseas investors. This follows increased economic integration across the Taiwan Strait, with cross-strait trade reaching $326 billion in 2025.

Anti-Corruption Milestones

Ying reported a 12% year-on-year increase in corruption case resolutions since 2025, highlighting several high-profile financial sector investigations. The procuratorate plans to implement new AI-powered case analysis systems this year to improve prosecution efficiency.
