China Stresses Strategic Cooperation with India for Regional Growth

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the critical importance of mutual trust between China and India during a press conference at the fourth session of the 14th National People's Congress in Beijing on March 8, 2026. He stated that cooperation serves as the cornerstone for both nations' development, while division could hinder Asia's collective progress.

Wang highlighted recent diplomatic progress, noting improved relations following the 2025 Kazan meeting and subsequent talks in Tianjin last August. He urged both countries to maintain a long-term strategic perspective and prioritize development as their shared goal, calling it "the biggest common denominator."

The foreign minister positioned strengthened China-India collaboration as vital for enhancing BRICS cooperation mechanisms and advancing the interests of developing nations worldwide. This appeal comes as BRICS continues expanding its influence in global economic governance.
