China Stresses Non-Targeted Cooperation with Latin America and Caribbean

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to respectful collaboration with Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) during a policy address on Sunday, March 8, 2026. Emphasizing mutual sovereignty, Wang stated that "the resources of LAC belong to its people," and stressed that regional nations alone hold the right to determine their development paths and international partnerships.

"Cooperation between China and LAC countries does not target any third party and should not be subject to interference by any third party," Wang declared, positioning China as a partner focused on infrastructure, trade, and technology transfers. The remarks come amid growing economic ties, with bilateral trade exceeding $700 billion in 2025.

Analysts view the statement as a reassurance to LAC nations seeking diversified global partnerships while maintaining strategic autonomy. For investors, the speech signals continued opportunities in energy, agriculture, and digital infrastructure projects across 33 LAC countries.
