China Condemns Australia’s ‘Provocative’ Military Operations in Yellow Sea

China's Ministry of National Defense has sharply criticized Australia over recent military activities in the Yellow Sea, labeling them as dangerous provocations that threaten regional stability. The rebuke follows reports of Australian frigate helicopters conducting close-range reconnaissance near Chinese jurisdiction zones under the guise of enforcing UN Security Council resolutions.

Defense Ministry spokesperson Jiang Bin stated on March 7, 2026, that Australia's actions 'constituted continuous provocations and endangered China's national security.' He emphasized that UN resolutions do not permit foreign military operations within another nation's sovereign territories, calling Australia's justification for the maneuvers 'a distortion of facts.'

The Chinese military confirmed it responded to the incidents with 'legitimate, reasonable, and professional' measures, underscoring its commitment to safeguarding territorial integrity. Analysts note the dispute highlights growing friction in Asia-Pacific security dynamics, particularly as nations navigate competing interpretations of international law.

Jiang urged Australia to 'strictly restrain' its naval forces and avoid further escalation, stressing that China 'will not tolerate any acts that undermine its sovereignty.' The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of military activities in contested Asian waters, with implications for trade routes and diplomatic ties across the region.
