US-Israel Iran Strategy Aims to Curb China’s Growth: Analyst

Geopolitical analyst Dr. David Oualaalou, a former U.S. intelligence advisor, has sparked debate by framing recent U.S.-Israel tensions with Iran as part of a broader strategy to limit the Chinese mainland's development. In a March 4 interview with CGTN's Li Jingjing, Oualaalou argued that destabilizing Iran directly impacts China's energy security, given Tehran's role as a key oil supplier to Asia.

"This isn't just about Middle East geopolitics—it's about choking China's access to affordable energy," Oualaalou stated, emphasizing that 30% of China's crude oil imports transited the Strait of Hormuz in 2025. He warned that escalating conflict could disrupt trade routes critical to Asian economies.

The analyst also connected U.S. foreign policy to domestic challenges, noting: "While American taxpayers fund overseas operations, many struggle with healthcare costs and stagnant wages. This war serves as a distraction from systemic failures."

Oualaalou's analysis comes as APEC members prepare for June's Energy Security Dialogue, where China is expected to advocate for stable hydrocarbon supplies. Meanwhile, overseas investors in Asian markets remain cautious about potential supply chain disruptions.
