Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Shopping Festival Launches to Boost Regional Spending

China's 2026 Consumption Promotion Month and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Consumption Season officially launched in Tianjin on March 2, marking a coordinated effort to revitalize economic activity across northern China's key development region. The initiative comes as authorities seek to stimulate service-oriented consumption through innovative cross-sector integration.

At the Ancient Culture Street launch event, commerce officials unveiled a bilingual Shopping in China Consumption Guide featuring curated recommendations for premium shopping, regional cuisine, cultural travel routes, and major exhibitions. The guide aims to enhance consumer experiences while promoting local brands across the tri-regional economic hub.

Ten strategic initiatives were announced, including the expansion of AI-powered retail solutions and the development of themed lifestyle routes that integrate commerce with cultural tourism. A 'Gifts from Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei' exhibition debuted 32 regional specialty products, ranging from traditional handicrafts to tech-enabled innovations.

Vice Commerce Minister Sheng Qiuping emphasized the program's focus on 'quality-driven consumption upgrades,' telling attendees: 'This year's campaign will prioritize green consumption models and health-conscious services while strengthening supply chain coordination across our integrated development zone.'

The three-month initiative involves collaboration between the Ministry of Commerce, China Media Group, and municipal governments, with planned expansions into digital marketplaces and cross-border e-commerce platforms expected through May.
